Lipodissolve - Fat dissolving Injections

Lipodissolve is a non-surgical alternative to liposuction for removing SMALL deposits of stubborn fat deposits that won’t go away with diet and exercise. It is utilised for body contouring rather than weight loss.

Lipodissolve injections are a combination of medications that are injected directly into excess fatty deposits to begin fat breakdown.

The main ingredient in Lipodissolve is phosphatidylcholine (PPC) PPC is a natural product found in our body and its main role is to emulsify and break down fat and cholesterol which is then removed by the liver, kidneys and bowels. 

What to expect?

Prior to your first treatment, our nurse will consult with you to assess your suitability for fat dissolving injections  and discuss any concerns or questions you may have.  

The treatment involves a series of small injections of the prescribed product directly into unwanted fat pockets. The injections may sting for a few seconds, and in some instances, a numbing agent will be used.

What areas are treated ?

Fat deposits above the knees and the face and neck can be treated. The most common areas that are treated are; abdominal bulges, love handles, back fat, saddlebags, thighs (inner and outer), buttocks, arms, double chins, cheeks and jowls. Injected more superficially,

Lipodissolve can also help to reduce the appearance of cellulite.

What does the treatment involve?

Before your treatment, you will be assessed, measured and photographed.

An anaesthetic cream is applied to the areas to be treated. The areas to be treated is cleansed with a disinfectant and PPC is then injected into the problem areas.

Generally, 3-4 treatments 2-4 weeks apart are needed to see results.

After treatment, there is swelling, tenderness, redness, bruising and temporary lumps to the treated areas.

You should drink plenty of fluids and massage the treated areas after your treatment.

Other side effects are mild nausea, diarrhoea, fever, infection (rare) and allergic reaction to PPC (rare). There is no reported anaphylactic reaction to PPC

Generally speaking, the following are contraindications for all lipodissolve solutions:

  • The average circumference reduction is 2 to 6 cm, depending upon the area treated. Results from the Network Lipodissolve study revealed the following average centimeter reductions per treatment by body area – lower belly 6.2, upper belly 5.9, love handles 4.2, saddlebags 3.5, upper thigh 3.0 & knee 2.6.
  • However, they don’t report the number of times patients receive injections.
  • Most people are suitable but it is not a weight loss solution. Lipodissolve will give the best results in people who have achieved their target weight, but suffer from stubborn areas of fat.
  • We do not perform lipodissolve on women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • The nurse will check the medical history and medications.
  • Lipodissolve’s major ingredient is Phosphatidylcholine (PC), known as lecithin, which is a natural product derived from soy that is used orally for many reasons.
  • Another natural component within Lipodissolve is Deoxycholate (DC) which dissolves the fatty contents into a “milky” emulsion.
  • This is not a weight loss treatment.
  • The effects of Lipodissolve are far, far greater for those who simultaneously improve their lifestyles during the 2 – 3 month of the fat dissolving period.
  • The greater achievers are always those who conscientiously improve their diets.
  • Within 2 weeks the treated areas slowly begin to soften, any minor bruising resolves and the fatty tissue thickness gradually begins to reduce.
  • Most people begin to notice contour improvement around the 4th week. The maximum fat loss occurs between the 6th and 8th week, and this is when the maximum changes in contours are noted.
  • As it takes your body up to 12 weeks to fully remove the dissolved fat, permanent improvements continue to occur up to this time. Slight lumpiness due to the body preparing the fat cell contents for elimination can sometimes be felt (but not seen) in the treated areas during the first 10 weeks.

  • Do not shower for the first four hours 
  • Minimise alcohol and drink plenty of water for the first 24 hours 
  • Avoid excessive exercise for the first 24 hours  
  • Do not take anti-inflammatories (e.g. aspirin and Nurofen) for the first 24 hours. Paracetamol can be taken if required. 
  • A cool compress can also be applied to the treated area to help reduce swelling 
  • Minimise excessive sun and UV exposure for the first two weeks 
  • Massage the treated area for 15 minutes per day for two weeks to aid the process of fat elimination
  • To ensure that you are happy and that optimal results are achieved, it is recommended that you attend a review appointment and assessment.   

    To achieve best results, one to four treatments, spaced six to eight weeks apart, are recommended.
